Here is an interesting article about new web software that will supposedly revolutionize the way we interact with information on the web. We shall see I guess.

Yes, there has been a lot of hype around this... it's called "the semantic web" (meaning it models human speech and knowledge). The idea is: I ask a question and the web gives me an answer. I don't really have to "search" any more. It's pretty much been a fantasy for decades, and a ton of research has been poured into human language modeling/parsing. I think we'll see how this works... the key is how it "learns" over time.
ReplyDeleteI like this concept a lot. "Learning" on the web is wonderful when you have a machine that is constantly modifying its results, etc. based on what humans are telling it. Google does and currently does this in a number of ways right? I remember that Google Images game where it gave you two images and said like "which one is a red hat?" etc. and you used to get points for it. That is, in a sense, "learning."
ReplyDeleteApple has played around with this "learning" concept as well in iPhoto.
Not sure why but while reading this...it made me think of Jason Calacanis' Mahalo which is a human driven search engine. Not too familiar with it but I know it doesn't rely on an algorithm like Google.
I think this site will become very useful. Not only will it provide more accurate information than Wikipedia, it will provide exact answers that one wont have to research to find like on Google. I believe that it will have a large impact on the popularity of Google. The semantic language will help so many people learn from the computer, who needs school now? just kidding.
